Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Software Engineer to support work with high performance terrestrial hydrology modeling and data assimilation. The Software Engineer will contribute to the maintenance of hydrology modeling systems and associated toolkits. + Key responsibilities include installation of hydrology modeling system deliverables via Gitlab in accordance with configuration management plans and procedures in preparation for transition-to-operations, regression and functional testing, and external user support related to the operational and routine environments employing the hydrology modeling system. Required Qualifications: + MS degree in computer science, geophysics, hydrology, or related disciplines and 10 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. + The candidate should have experience in formal software engineering practices, structured programming, object-oriented programming and computing platforms and environments. + Knowledge of software management tools such as git is required. + The candidate must also be knowledgeable in visualization/analysis packages and software such as GrADS, NCL, IDL, Matlab and GIS. + In addition to Fortran, proficiency with C, python languages, Unix and multiprocessor environments and understanding of MPI is required. + The individual should have good communication (written and oral) skills. Experience in organizing meetings, project coordination, and writing and reviewing technical reports is also expected. + US Citizenship Required. Desired Qualifications: + Experience in building or working with different Earth system components, familiarity with technologies such as the Earth System Modeling Framework (ESMF) are highly desired. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
